Weston Children’s Centre – A New Beginning

Here is some very good news! After a year of concentrated effort on the part of a small team led by Peter Heywood, agreement has been reached with B&NES Council that from 1st January 2018, All Saints Church will take over the management of Weston Children’s Centre and run it on behalf of the community. This is the building on Penn Hill Road, opposite St Mary’s Primary School, that used to be called Centre 69, and which has been run by B&NES Council for many years.  From 1 January we will rename it WESTON HUB. It will be the permanent home for ENRICH and all the work they do with young people in Weston. There are a lot of other regular users of the building who will continue to use the building, and new users are already making bookings for 2018 as well. Weston Hub will be managed by Gary Oaten and the Church Centre operations team, with two new members to be recruited to add to the capacity of the team (a full-time apprentice and a part-time cleaner/caretaker). There is a robust business plan in place, to ensure that the Hub will cover all its own costs and not require any subsidy from the Church. Almost certainly if All Saints had not stepped in, the Council would have closed the building. This new lease of life for the Centre gives us a great opportunity to be a positive force for good to the people of Weston.
