Do you not know

Do you not know?

Have you not heard?

The Lord is the everlasting God,

the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He will not grow tired or weary,

and his understanding no one can fathom.

29 He gives strength to the weary

and increases the power of the weak.

30 Even youths grow tired and weary,

and young men stumble and fall;

31 but those who hope in the Lord

will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:28–31 (NIV)

This is a wonderful passage of scripture from Isaiah. Chapter 40 is entitled ‘Comfort for God’s People’ and verses 28-31 are some of the best known verses of an extraordinary passage that speaks of an awesome God. Verse 22 says: He stretches out the heavens like a canopy and spreads them out like a tent to live in. Yet it speaks too of a compassionate father. Verse 11 says: He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

It’s worth taking time to read the whole chapter…and of course, the whole of Isaiah points toward the coming of Jesus.

You are almighty God, you are everlasting and unchanging. Creator of all things, compassionate and loving. Father we come to you. Our hope is in you. Renew us and restore us so that we won’t grow weary and faint in this time of great distress.
